Fathers’ Day was celebrated this year on 18 June, and I decided to run a special project under Social Crime Prevention for the fathers at Westville SAPS, with the wonderful support of some very gracious sponsors. Rapid Media Promotions helped me obtain coffee mugs for every father at Westville Police Station while Westville Mall Mugg and Bean sponsored vouchers, courtesy of Christo Patinios. Christo specifically expressed that, so often, people forget that police officials are also fathers and mothers and he was glad to do his bit by sponsoring vouchers to his restaurant.
The mugs, sponsored by RM Promo, Topjocks and Driveshaft Parts were emblazoned with slogans including "World's best policeman"; "Some people call me officer, the most important call me dad" and "Great dads make great cops".
The 80 fathers were also entered in a lucky draw, and the winner will be the owner of a JETBeam tactical torch, kindly donated by Chris Crompton-James of JETBeam.
The draw for the torch will be made once all the mugs and vouchers have been handed out as many dads work shifts and we hand them out as they come on duty.
A sincere thank you goes out to Liesel at Rapid Media, the Community Police Forum and all the kind sponsors who made this venture possible. Please support them as they do a lot for Westville SAPS.
