On Monday 9 March 2020, D/Sgt Mokowe, Const Kwatise and Const Mataa reacted to a complaint at one of the bank branches in Swartruggens. Upon arrival, the police members found one of the bank’s employees and a female client who alleged to have won the lottery.
According to the complainant, money to the amount to R553 500 was stolen from her account. The initial investigation revealed that the suspect was a teller at the bank who was immediately arrested.
A theft case, namely Swartruggens CAS 20/03/2020 was opened. During the initial investigation the team managed to trace the amount of R500 000 which was transferred into the account of the suspect. The account was immediately frozen. The suspect was officially charged on 10 March 2020 and appeared in the Swartruggens Magistrates’ Court on 11 March 2020. The suspect was released on R1500 bail on 18 March 2020. The case was postponed to 8 April 2020 for a possible mediation discussion with the complainant.
The quick reaction of these three members of Swartruggens SAPS ensured that the suspect could be arrested and the money frozen. Well done
