After 80 days of enforcing COVID-19 lockdown regulations, 14 police officials have succumbed to the coronavirus, Police Minister Bheki Cele announced during a multi-disciplinary operation in Soweto. By 13 June 2020 there were 1685 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases in the SAPS of which the Western Cape has 1134, followed by the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. The good news is that more than 600 of these police employees have recovered and are back serving their communities.
Although all the names of the deceased police officials are not known, Servamus wants to pay tribute to them for fighting this unseen enemy. These police officials did not have a choice to stay home and stay safe, but had to enforce the laws of the land, including the lockdown regulations, along with the colleagues from other law enforcement agencies.
May your souls rest in peace. #Salute.
